Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singles out Man Utd star he’s delighted for despite Southampton draw
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer picked out Daniel James as the one player that stood out during the draw at Southampton.
Manchester United were held to a draw, to their frustrations, on the south coast by Southampton, meaning they have not won since the opening day of the season against Chelsea.
Jannik Vestergaard chalked off Daniel James’ stunning opener, before Kevin Danso was shown a second yellow card.
Despite the result, there was one real positive for Manchester United in the form of James, who continues to go from strength to strength.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to express how impressed he was by the Welshman, who has now scored three Premier League goals.
“We started off well, got the game exactly where we wanted it, and when that happens we need to finish it off,” he told BT Sport.
“We weren’t clinical enough.
“Daniel has got a great strike in him; he’s really made an impact for us and I’m delighted for the boy.”
Manchester United have now taken just two points from their last three matches, leaving them in danger of losing ground on their fellow top six rivals.
Even so, Solskjaer believes the performance was good enough to take all three points.
“The strange thing about is that our performances in the last three games were better than the one against Chelsea,” he added.
“We’ve dominated the games but we’ve missed some great chances.
“It’s not a dip in form, it’s a dip in results.”
The departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez have left them short in attack and put added pressure on the shoulders of Marcus Rashford.
Mason Greenwood, who came on as a substitute, had a penalty shout turned away.
