Brazilian centre-back David Luiz arrived on transfer deadline day from Chelsea but he was guilty of two big mistakes in the 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday.
Hislop was surprised at Emery’s team selection and tactics in the Premier League clash at Anfield.
But he says the loss reinforces the opinion Arsenal’s defence is not quite good enough.
“You look at the chasing pack and we’re still left scratching our heads a little bit as to who will emerge at the top of that chasing pack,” former West Ham goalkeeper Hislop said.

“I don’t understand that thinking, nor do I understand the tactics employed by Unai Emery, nor do I understand why he didn’t address some of those defensive woes earlier on in the transfer window.
“David Luiz clearly at fault for two of those goals [against Liverpool].”
