Man Utd debut watch: How Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and James fared in Chelsea thrashing
MANCHESTER UNITED trio Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James all made their debuts for the club against Chelsea. Express Sport now looks at how they fared as the Red Devils' Premier League campaign started with a win on home turf.
Man Utd: Maguire transfer advice given by Simon Jordan
Manchester United spent more than any other Premier League club, forking out to land Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and James for a combined fee of £148million.
James was the first to arrive, with the Wales international touching down from Championship side Swansea in the middle of June.
Manchester United then followed that up by paying Crystal Palace £50m for Wan-Bissaka, before Maguire followed late in the window for a huge £80m.
All three men featured for United in their match against Chelsea today and, now, we look at how they fared.
Harry Maguire
When Manchester United forked out £80m to sign Maguire so late in the transfer window, eyebrows were raised.
However, the England international looks value for money and impressed at the back as the Red Devils kept a clean sheet.
Maguire was a beast in the air and the Manchester United star was able to shackle Chelsea's Tammy Abraham with relative ease.
It's early days yet but he looks, just like Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool, that he may be dosh well spent.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Manchester United have struggled with right-backs ever since Gary Neville retired way back in 2011.
And in the last few seasons the club have had to contend with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young playing there, despite both being natural wingers.
But Wan-Bissaka looks as if Manchester United may have just solved an eight-year old problem.
The former Crystal Palace defender was the star of the show and looks, like Maguire, is if he live up to his price tag.
Daniel James
James came on for United late in the day with the game already all but won.
But the Wales international showed his potential, using his pace and trickery to cause Chelsea problems on the flanks.
The former Swansea winger found the net after some good work from Paul Pogba, pointing to the heavens to pay tribute to his father.
And James also drew a foul from Chelsea's N'Golo Kante. A good afternoon for the youngster.
