What Man Utd chief Ed Woodward did in directors’ box as Chelsea suffered thrashing
MANCHESTER UNITED demolished Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday and Ed Woodward failed to contain his delight in the directors’ box.
Man Utd have 'advantage' over Chelsea says Solskjaer
Manchester United chief Woodward, who oversaw three of his new summer signings impress in their opening Premier League fixture, was spotted celebrating with supporters inside the ground.
And the Manchester Evening News claim Woodward was high fiving in the directors' box with United rampant against their opponents.
The Red Devils were handed an early lead through Marcus Rashford’s penalty before adding another after Anthony Martial made it 2-0.
Debutant Daniel James then got in on the act to add a fourth and condemn Frank Lampard’s Chelsea to a damaging defeat.
Harry Maguire also impressed after his world record move from Leicester City was confirmed earlier this month, and revealed his anticipation shortly before kick-off.
He said: “The atmosphere will be unreal.
“It will be unbelievable, I played here last year on the opening day, so I know that atmosphere is going to be great.
“Like I said, I just can’t wait to get out there.
“I’m just looking forward to getting the first game out of the way and hopefully getting the three points.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be delighted with how Maguire and his team-mates brushed away the challenge of their top four rivals, especially after he praised the England international prior to the match.
“I’m delighted we have got Harry in because he’s going to be great for this club,” said Solskjaer.
“He was always my number-one target. Of course it took some time but it does occasionally.
“I more or less made my mind up when we played Leicester that if it was possible to get him we should get him or at least try to. He is so composed on the ball and gives the team another dimension.”
Maguire partnered Victor Lindelof for the first time and the pair went on to narrowly keep a clean sheet after Chelsea hit the woodwork twice, shortly after the Norwegian boss had urged fans not to compare him to Virgil van Dijk.
"I don’t want to compare us,” Solskjaer said.
“But I know Harry is going to have a massive impact on us.”
