Man Utd offer contract to Bruno Fernandes as star makes decision on Tottenham transfer
MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly offered a contract to Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes, who is willing to snub Tottenham in favour of a move to Old Trafford.
Man Utd: Solskjaer should sign Bruno Fernandes says fan
Manchester United and Tottenham have both been battling to sign Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon this transfer window.
The Portugal international scored a stunning 31 goals from midfield for his club last season, while also helping his country overcome Switzerland and Holland to win the Nations League.
Manchester United want Fernandes in this transfer window to compensate for the imminent departure of Ander Herrera, who is primed to join PSG.
They also believe they need another midfielder to replace Marouane Fellaini, who was sold back in January to the Chinese Super League.
Tottenham, though, want Fernandes too.
And Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha claim the player’s representative, Miguel Pinho, has returned from meeting the Premier League clubs.
It is said that both have made identical offers to Fernandes in a bid to try and get him to sign.
And the Sporting star would prefer to join United, having been attracted to the ‘history and mystique’ of the club.
United and Tottenham have both been told it will take £62million to lure Fernandes away from his country.
But neither club are yet to meet that asking price and a deal could yet end up being done for less.
Speaking back in May, Fernandes admitted he was uncertain about what would happen regarding his future.
"I honestly don't know [what will happen in the future],” the Sporting star said.
“I like to focus on things once the season is over, when I can think with calmness.
"The financial aspect always weights a lot, we have a short career. But staying here, I will always be able to raise money, it's not a financial issue.
"It's a matter of having dreams left to realise. It's a difficult choice, we never know what's going to happen.
“My connection to Sporting is very strong and it was even stronger after the events [in Alcochete] and having come back [to Sporting].
"It meant a lot to me how I was received, I'm close to home, I have my family, my daughter can grow up more easily at school.
“But there are dreams to be fulfilled in my head and which I would like to achieve."
