Gary Neville trolls Leeds after Salford Carabao Cup draw and Man Utd history
GARY NEVILLE aimed a dig at Leeds United after they were drawn against Salford City in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Leeds announces Marcelo Bielsa will stay at club
Manchester United legend Neville is a co-owner of Salford who are in the Carabao Cup for the first time in their history having gained promotion to the Football League at the end of last season.
And he took to Twitter to poke fun at Leeds’ lengthy absence from the Premier League.
“Welcome back into my life Leeds United,” he wrote. “Not seen you for 15 years.”
Ironically, Leeds are two divisions higher than Neville’s Salford but the former right-back was clearly referring to his time as a player.
United and Leeds remain fierce rivals despite not playing in the same division since 2004.
The fixture between the two sides is lily to be picked up by TV and broadcast by Sky.
However, rivals AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons were also drawn together and that could rival it for air time.
Other standout ties include Wigan vs Stoke and Huddersfield v Lincoln.
