Chelsea are on the search for a new manager with Maurizio Sarri set to leave the club for Juventus imminently.
The Blues' all-time top goalscorer Frank Lampard is the overwhelming favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard has had just one season in management though, leading Derby County to the Championship play-off final where they lost 2-1 to Aston Villa at Wembley.
Chelsea may be unable to make any new signings this summer after being slapped with a two-window transfer ban, although they have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
He wasn’t so keen to go to a club where he wouldn’t have control over transfers
Paolo Bandini on Massimiliano Allegri rejecting Chelsea
ESPN reporter Paolo Bandini claims Chelsea discussed appointing Allegri, who left Juventus at the end of last season.
However, he claims the Italian was not keen due to the lack of say he would have in any potential signings at Stamford Bridge.
So Bandini says that is why Lampard looks set to take the job.
“It is a really difficult situation to walk into if this transfer embargo holds up,” Bandini told ESPN FC.

“You’re losing Eden Hazard and aren’t able to replace the most important player in your team.
“I think he’s a choice that makes sense from the board’s point of view because you think look, here’s someone who, because of his love from the club, will say ‘okay I accept this difficult situation, I want this opportunity, I believe I can work with the young players you have here’.
“But I don’t see it in a whole lot of other sense than that.
“I guess the one thing that’s worth saying is for the same reason, this job wasn’t as attractive to other big managers.

“Max Allegri was discussed as a possible target for it.
“My understanding was he wasn’t so keen to go to a club where he wouldn’t have control over transfers, where he wouldn’t have the opportunity to go out after targets he wanted.
“So it isn’t just necessarily the Chelsea board looking after themselves.
“It’s also about what options were open to them and achievable quickly so they can start getting reason for next season sooner rather than later.”
