Tottenham: Eriksen to leave is 'NOT surprising' says pundit
Manchester United are interested in a Tottenham player yet again. In 2017 it was Eric Dier, in 2018 it was Toby Alderweireld and now it’s Eriksen.
The Denmark international is poised to leave the north London giants this transfer window, having hinted that he is ready to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
The Tottenham star said on Wednesday: “I feel that I am in a place in my career, where I might want to try something new.
“I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.
“I hope there will be a clarification during the summer. That's the plan. It can happen anytime. Everyone wants it best if it happens as soon as possible, but in football things take time.
“It depends on Daniel Levy. And another club has to come. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. If I have to go, then hopefully it will be a step up.”
United want Eriksen. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows his side need more creativity if they are to ever get back to where they used to be.
The problem is, though, that Berbatov may stop a transfer from happening.
Not that the Bulgaria international would be to blame. It’s just a consequence of his own move from Tottenham to United 11 years ago.
In 2008, months after steering the Red Devils to the Premier League and Champions League double, Sir Alex Ferguson got to work.
Despite having Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez on the books, he deemed Berbatov a necessary buy.

The problem was Tottenham simply refused to let him go. That is, until they had no choice.
On deadline day that summer, Manchester City agreed a deal with Spurs for Berbatov having just become oil-rich.
United weren’t having that. And Ferguson personally intervened.
When Berbatov flew into Manchester airport, the Scot was there waiting to greet him. The Red Devils hero ushered the striker into his car and they travelled to Old Trafford.
United still hadn’t agreed a fee with Spurs at this point and spent the next few hours haggling and haggling until the north London giants had no choice.
But it was on that day that Daniel Levy vowed to never let a top class star, one operating at the peak of his powers, go.
