Bernd Leno double save: Arsenal hero Martin Keown CONFESSES doubts
ARSENAL goalkeeper Bernd Leno proved he is good enough during Saturday’s north London derby against Tottenham.
Arsenal v Spurs: Emery says team will 'get stronger' after draw
That is according to BT Sport pundit and ex-Arsenal and England defender Martin Keown.
Leno has become the Gunners’ No 1 goalkeeper in the Premier League since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
Keown has previously been critical of the Germany international, questioning if he was at the necessary level.
But Leno pulled off an astonishing double save in the first half against Tottenham which changed Keown’s mind.
Actually I think with this save he’s definitely arrived now
Leno first kept Christian Eriksen’s close-range shot out before a stunning reflex save to prevent Moussa Sissoko from scoring.
“Is he at the level? That’s what I wondered,” Keown said at half time.
“But actually I think with this save he’s definitely arrived now.
“The first one’s a good one but this is outstanding.
“Reflex save, tips it over the bar, superb.
“Outstanding save. He sees it really late as well.”
Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas thought Eriksen should have scored his chance.
But he took nothing away from Leno for the save from Sissoko.
“It’s a great save,” Jenas said.
“We’ve not really seen much from Eriksen today. I think he’s got to stick that one away, I really do.
“But you can’t credit the goalkeeper enough. It’s an absolutely brilliant save.”
The game ended 1-1 at Wembley, with Harry Kane's penalty cancelling out Aaron Ramsey's opener.
