That’s according to former Celtc man Chris Sutton.
Debates about how the two Glasgow club would fare against Premier League opposition has raged on for years, with many believing they wouldn’t match up.
Some, though, like Sutton, have argued that the stature of both sides would mean that they’d be able to challenge for silverware.
And on BT Sport’s Saturday Sav, Sutton had his say on the matter, but he had to take on Joleon Lescott in the process, who had an opposing view about the quality of Scottish football.
The debate sprung into action after a conversation about whether Brendan Rodgers was right to leave Celtic to take a job with Leicester.
“How many players in their prime go to Celtic or Rangers? Not many,” Lescott asked.
“I’m not disrespecting Celtic or saying they’re a small club by any means, but Jamie Vardy didn’t even go to Arsenal.”
Chis Sutton then quipped that money had everything to do with players’ decisions these days.

“It’s all about money isn’t it?” he said.
Before Lescott replied: "It’s about the Premier League!”
Sutton then put to Lescott what the case would be, had Celtic and Rangers joined the Premier League in the early 2000s.
“Hang on a minute, so if Celtic and Rangers came to the Premier League, which nearly happened in the early 2000s when Martin O’Neil was manager,” he said.
“They would have challenged, because of the size of the club, thats just a matter of fact.
