Man Utd news: One Jose Mourinho problem still exists at United - Marcel Desailly
MANCHESTER UNITED still have a problem left behind by former manager Jose Mourinho despite their recent return to form.
Man Utd: Mourinho’s defensive issues ‘still there’ says pundit
That is according to former France and Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly.
Manchester United have won 10 of their 12 matches under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since Mourinho was sacked in December.
The only defeat of Solskjaer’s reign came in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against PSG at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe secured a 2-0 aggregate lead for the Ligue 1 side.
What was the problem under Mourinho is still there, it’s still there. They had 10 amazing games but it’s still there
And after the game, Desailly says there was a familiar problem in the Manchester United defence.
Jose Mourinho wanted to improve his defence in the transfer market last summer but was not able to bring in any of his targets.
“What was the problem under Mourinho is still there, it’s still there,” Desailly said on beIN SPORTS.
“They had 10 amazing games but it’s still there.
“You talk about the defence, the lack of leaders, it’s still there.
“Today it has shown up in the Champions League.
“Solskjaer and the players have to get back the motivation to prove that they are a great club.
“We have identified what was needed.
“Same for Chelsea when they lost against [Manchester] City.
“You know you have identified that you have a problem in your back four, where you have to rectify.
“This is what the top-level game gives you as an indication.”
United are back in action on Monday against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round.
