Tottenham news: Why Harry Kane’s injury could be good news for Man Utd - Tony Cascarino
HARRY KANE’s injury could be another reason why Manchester United target Mauricio Pochettino would leave Tottenham.
Kane injury could make Pochettino leave claims pundit
That is the opinion of talkSPORT pundit and former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Tony Cascarino.
Kane is set to miss at least the next six weeks with an ankle injury.
The England captain suffered ligament damage in the closing stages of Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United.
Tottenham only have one recognised striker to fill in for Kane, but Fernando Llorente is yet to start or score in the Premier League this season.
Thinking of the bigger picture, it might be another reason why Pochettino may go
Fans and pundits have called for Spurs to bring in a new striker this month to ease Kane’s absence.
But having not spent a penny last summer, a short-term fix looks unlikely.
And Cascarino believes Pochettino could be getting frustrated he has not got enough depth in his squad.
“Harry is a huge loss, this is a big blow to Tottenham and I think it’s the final nail in the coffin of them having any chance of competing for the Premier League title,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.
“But thinking of the bigger picture, it might be another reason why Pochettino may go.
“If he thinks he can’t have a fully fit Harry Kane every season and can’t get a replacement in who is going to do a similar job – that’s what they haven’t got.
“Llorente is decent but he’s not going to ever be what Harry Kane is, and how many players of that quality will want to come and just sit on the bench?
“Say what you like about Manchester City, but they’ve built a squad where if David Silva got injured they’ve got Bernardo Silva, if De Bruyne gets injured they’ve got Phil Foden and then you’ve got Gabriel Jesus if [Sergio] Aguero is out.
“And with Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, they can shuffle the pack slightly and they’ll be fine.
“Tottenham can’t do that.”
Mauricio Pochettino remains among the favourites to become the next permanent manager of Manchester United.
Current interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the favourite after winning his first six games in charge.
