Real Madrid prepared to pay £4m to replace Santiago Solari with Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho
REAL MADRID are prepared to pay £4million to appoint Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho as Santiago Solari’s successor, reports in Spain say.
Real Madrid were linked with Manchester United boss Mourinho in October following the decision to sack Julen Lopetegui.
Mourinho has cut a forlorn figure over at Old Trafford this season with the club currently a huge 17 points adrift of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Ultimately, however, Real Madrid chose to settle for Solari. The Spaniard has steadied the ship but his long-term future at the club is up in the air.
And Ok Diario say Real are prepared to pay Manchester United £4m to bring Mourinho back at the end of the season.
The 55-year-old spent three years at the club between 2010 and 2013.
And, during that time, he beat Pep Guardiola’s formidable Barcelona to both the La Liga title and Copa del Rey.
Ultimately, though, Mourinho was forced out.
The United boss fell out with Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo - leading to a dressing room revolt.
Despite that, however, Mourinho remains admired by Los Blancos president Florentino Perez.
Perez would love to appoint a strict disciplinarian at the Bernabeu following his club’s mixed season so far.
And Mourinho, Ok Diario say, is leading the charge to take over.
Any appointment is likely to have to wait until the summer, though, with Mourinho still committed to United.
Meanwhile, La Liga expert Guillem Balague recently told Express Sport that Real nearly re-appointed Mourinho in January 2016.
“A return to Real Madrid under Florentino Perez was possible,” he said.
“And it almost happened at least once.
“But I do not see it happening now.
“That was around the time of the Rafa Benitez sacking.
“But now I do not think there is a possibility.”
