Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Inter Milan powerhouse Skriniar amid their turbulent start to the season.
The Red Devils conceded just 28 Premier League goals last season as Jose Mourinho steered them to a second-placed finish in the table.
However, Manchester United have suffered so far this season, shipping 21 league goals already.
Mourinho wants a centre-back and, having missed out on Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld, Yerry Mina, Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin back in the summer, feels it is an area that remains in sore need of strengthening.

And, should he leave, Inter’s Skriniar could be his replacement.
Speaking earlier this month, however, the player’s agent claimed he was in talks over a new Inter contract.
"We're talking about it," he told Tuttomercatoweb.
"We're working on it. It's a subject we'll be facing more intensively over the next few months."
