Jordan Henderson: The real reason Jurgen Klopp took Liverpool star off vs Huddersfield
JORDAN HENDERSON was substituted at half time of Liverpool’s clash with Huddersfield today - so what was the reason behind Jurgen Klopp’s decision?
Liverpool were winning 1-0 at half time of the Premier League clash at the Kirklees Stadium.
Mohamed Salah gave the visitors the lead with his fourth goal of the season after good work from Xherdan Shaqiri.
Huddersfield were proving a tough test though and Liverpool had to play the second half without their skipper.
Henderson was replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum at the break and it soon emerged he has a tight hamstring.
Henderson being the captain I wouldn’t have thought Klopp would have taken him off at half time
At half time, BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey asked two former Liverpool midfielders what they thought of the decision to take Henderson off.
“They weren’t perfect going forward and they looked vulnerable at the back,” Humphrey said.
“But is that a tactical decision? Or maybe a knock for Jordan Henderson.”
Paul Ince was sure it was an injury, replying: “Henderson being the captain I wouldn’t have thought Klopp would have taken him off at half time.
“So I presume it must be, it must be an injury.
“I for one, in a game like it is against Huddersfield, it’s going to be nitty gritty knock downs, Henderson’s the right man.
“So, he must be injured.”
And Ince’s co-pundit Steve McManaman also could not understand why Henderson would have been taken off if he was not injured.
“Yeah I would think the same,” McManaman said.
“It’s not necessarily tactical because he (Wijnaldum) will just go and play in the same position Jordan Henderson plays.
“James Milner will be captain so I presume Jordan must have a little knock coming back from the international break.”
Henderson may now be a doubt for the Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.
