Chelsea icon urges Abramovich: DO NOT sack Sarri like Conte and Mourinho mess
CHELSEA must make sure Maurizio Sarri does not go the same way as Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte by exiting the club too early.
That is according to Blues legend Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been swift when wielding the axe in recent years.
Mourinho lasted just over two seasons back at the Blues, while Conte’s time was up after 24 months at Stamford Bridge.
Abramovich has made a habit of changing managers over the years, with Sarri his 12th appointment since 2003.
It would be nice for Sarri to do a stint
Chelsea have got off to a stellar start under the Italian and Harris is hopeful the boss will get time to shine in west London.
“When you look at the track record over the last 10 years, they only seem to stay a couple of seasons and then they seem to fall out and leave,” Harris told Love Sport Radio.
“It would be nice for Sarri to do a stint and win a few things for the club.”
Sarri replaced Conte over the summer after a wrangle with Napoli over his release.
The manager was allowed to bring in a number of players - with Jorginho and Kepa Arrizabalaga costing a combined £128m.
Mateo Kovacic was also loaned in from Real Madrid as part of the deal that saw Thibaut Courtois sold to the Spanish giants.
And Harris has been largely impressed with how Sarri has run his side so far.
“I think that, without being disrespectful to him, a lot of the Chelsea supporters wouldn’t have known who Sarri was until he came here,” he added to Love Sport Radio.
“So obviously he’s on trial as much as one or two of the players he’s brought in.
“He seems to have bought wisely at the moment and things seem to be going ever so well for him.”
Next up for Chelsea is a trip to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, before they host the Reds in the Premier League on Saturday.
