Arsenal news: Key difference between Unai Emery and Arsene Wenger revealed
ARSENAL ace Alex Iwobi has revealed the key difference between former boss Arsene Wenger and new manager Unai Emery.
Arsenal expert reveals how Emery has changed the squad
Wenger left after 22 years in charge during the summer and was replaced by the Spaniard.
Emery’s start to life in England hasn’t been easy with the Gunners being beaten by Manchester City and Chelsea in their opening two Premier League games.
Arsenal have a chance to get their first points on the board on Saturday as they host West Ham (3pm).
Iwobi has been at Arsenal since the age of nine, and shone at the end of last season under Wenger.
But the 22-year-old is enjoying life under Emery too, despite admitting there’s more to focus on with the former PSG boss.
“He demands a lot,” Iwobi said. “He’s a lot more intense.
“A lot of high pressing and keeping the ball so that it benefits us if we have the ball.
“It’s good for us, especially the attackers who like to have the ball a lot.
“It’s exciting times to be fair. Everybody’s enjoying and buying into the new ideas.
“For me personally, I’m enjoying the new sessions, the new training methods and the new ideas, so I’m enjoying my time with him.”
Arsenal were comprehensively beaten by City but put up more of a fight in a 3-2 loss to Chelsea.
And Ashley Cole, who was part of the Arsenal squad that last won the Premier League in 2004, is encouraged by what he has seen.
“I used to watch the games with [Arsene Wenger] in the long jacket and you don’t see that any more,” Cole said.
“Times change, people move on, and I think it was his time to go.
“And obviously, they’ve brought in a new manager with new ideas and a new philosophy.
“With Arsenal, there’s a new manager still, but I think the first two games they had were very, very difficult, so I think they’ll start picking up points now.
“I think it might take a little bit of time, he has to gel the players together, he’s got a few new players.
“To put his philosophy across and how he wants to play, I don’t think it’s going to happen straight away.”
