Tyson Fury promoter Frank Warren reveals one KEY detail to make Anthony Joshua fight
ANTHONY JOSHUA’S potential clash with Tyson Fury would be a 50-50 split, according to Fury’s promoter Frank Warren.
Joshua faces Alexander Povetkin this weekend at Wembley, putting his IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight belts on the line.
Should ‘AJ’ come through the bout, he has Fury and Deontay Wilder as potential opponent for his next defence.
After Fury’s recent points decision over Francesco Pianeta, Wilder entered the ring and squared up to the ‘Gypsy King’.
The pair confirmed a fight between them would happen, but didn’t announce any details regarding the match-up.
How much does anybody want out of this? It’s a 50/50 split, down the middle
One month later, still no details regarding the fight have been released, but both camps insist it will happen.
A long-running he-said-she-said disagreement between Joshua and Wilder took place over the summer, as both fighters accused each other of ducking a unification fight.
Fury’s promoter Warren hopes talk of a unification bout can happen with Fury, given his fighter overcomes the rumoured match-up against Wilder.
Such an event would likely break British boxing records, and speaking of Fury facing Joshua, Warren told iFL TV: “It’s gotta happen, provided they both keep winning. First of all, [Fury’s] gotta beat Wilder.”
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in his confidence. He’s one of those guys who gets belief in himself about fights.
“He’s got the tools to beat Deontay and if he wins that how can the fight [against Joshua] not happen - why wouldn’t it happen?
“We want it to happen, don’t they [Matchroom Sport] want it to happen?”
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, notoriously doesn’t get on well with Warren, who represents his biggest rival in British boxing promotion.
Discussing how he would negotiate with Hearn, Warren said: “This is a hypothetical situation… Anthony Joshua comes through his fight and Tyson comes through his.
“What are you going to be arguing about? It can only be money, can’t it? There’s nothing else to argue about.
“It’s just a 50/50 split isn’t it. Lineal champion who just beat the WBC champion - the guy they didn’t want to fight. They could’ve fought him.
