Mike Perry's boxing record makes for concerning reading ahead of Jake Paul fight

Mike Perry will swap the octagon for the squared circle when he faces Jake Paul on Saturday night, but it's not the first time he's been in a boxing ring.

Mike Perry is set to face off against Jake Paul this Saturday, but it's not his first visit to the world of boxing. The 32-year-old from Flint, Michigan, has had a successful career in combat sports, boasting a 14-8 MMA record with the UFC before transitioning to bare-knuckle boxing.

Currently, he's on a five-fight winning streak with BKFC, having triumphed over formidable opponents like Eddie Alvarez, Luke Rockhold and Michael 'Venom' Page. And he's hoping that his experience in bare-knuckle boxing will give him an edge in the boxing ring this weekend.

Interestingly, Perry has dabbled in boxing before, although it didn't go as planned. Back in 2015, he faced then 7-0 rising star Kenneth McNeil on a Roy Jones Jr undercard but was knocked out in the fourth round. Video footage of the match shows Perry being hit by a powerful overhand right from McNeil, causing him to stumble and fall to the canvas where he was counted out by referee Andrew Glenn.

Since then, McNeil has built up an impressive 13-5 boxing record, while Perry has primarily focused on mixed martial arts. However, Perry is looking to redeem himself from his previous boxing defeat when he squares off against 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida this Saturday.

Paul was originally scheduled to face boxing legend Mike Tyson on July 20 in Arlington, Texas. However, due to medical concerns, the 57-year-old was forced to postpone the match until November. Despite this setback, 'The Problem Child' decided to continue with his planned fight date and accepted a short notice bout with 'Platinum' Perry.

He aims to improve his 9-1 record after Saturday evening's showdown. Paul began his boxing career by taking on fellow YouTubers Deji Olatunji and AnEsonGib, before defeating former basketball player Nate Robinson.

Since then, he has claimed victories over ex-UFC stars Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. His only defeat came at the hands of Tommy Fury via a split decision in February 2023.

On the other hand, Perry has participated in some of the most brutal fights in the history of combat sports. He had his nose completely shattered by Vicente Luque during a UFC match in 2019, and knocked out Rockhold's teeth at BKFC last year.
