Discussing an outrageous football blunder, which the show called "the worst miss in history", the presenter couldn't help but slip in his own cheeky comment.
"I would have subbed myself, immediately," the 40-year-old muttered.
Although the BBC Breakfast team moved on quickly from the potential euphemism, viewers did not miss it and flooded to Twitter in disbelief.

Nearly just choked on my porridge
One wrote: "Nearly just choked on my porridge which could be a euphemism for what I thought I heard @mrdanwalker just say."
Another added along with a clip of the moment: "I beg your pardon," while a third joked: "@mrdanwalker you’d do what to yourself immediately?"
A fourth commented: "Did Dan just say what I thought he said!? (Oh… 'subbed-off!') Oh..OK as you were."
One more viewer said: "You did say you would have ‘subbed’ yourself off didn’t you? #footballmisses."
Fans were in hysterics as they misheard Dan's comment
This follows a dramatic instalment of BBC Breakfast yesterday which saw Dustin Hoffman shut down an interview with Charlie Stayt.
What's more, reporter Steph McGovern was left red-faced when her microphone pack fell off during a broadcast.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
