But in a clip from tomorrow night's episode, Dot (played by June Brown) is back behind the wheel driving her great grandson Matthew around.
The scene starts with polite Dot thanking her satnav for giving her directions before turning her attention to Matthew in the passenger seat.
Seasonal Dot then begins to discuss the upcoming Christian festival of Lent, asking Matthew: "I don't suppose your daddy has talked to you about Lent? No he won't you're far too little.
"It's all about Jesus you see. He gave up his life for us - so we can be let into heaven. Sowe have to give something up for him," she added.
Dot and Matthew are out for a drive, but where are they heading?

Your real daddy, he'd be ever so proud of you
Clearly enamoured with the toddler, Dot tells baby Matthew: "Oh you're such a good boy - sitting there in your special seat. Your real daddy, he'd be ever so proud of you."
Trying not to think too much about her grandson, Charlie (Declan Bennett), Dot turns the radio on before the scene ends.
However, given Dot's recent eye problems, EastEnders' viewers are worried for the pair's safety, with one tweeting: "OMG no way should Dot be driving especially with a kid in the car #eastenders."
Will Dot's eyesight hold out long enough to get them to their destination?
June Brown recently turned 90
It is especially harrowing for baby Matthew, given the horrific circumstances he was born in after late-mum, Ronnie (Samantha Womack) was left in a coma after a dramatic car accident.
Viewers will have to wait until tomorrow to see where Dot was heading and if her eyesight holds out long enough.
EastEnders continues tomorrow on BBC One at 7:30pm.
