It wasn't long before she declared her loyalty was with the BBC while her fellow judge Paul Hollywood signed a deal to stay in the infamous baking tent, but it doesn't appear to have impacted on their friendship.
It seems Mary never even thought about moving as she revealed she refused to meet with Channel 4 regarding a new contract.
When asked by Radio Times if she was tempted to follow the popular baking series, she said: "No, I wasn't. And anyway, I was never asked to go.

I didn't ever have a meeting with them
"I avoided being asked. It was suggested what would happen if I did go to Channel 4, what I would get, the advantages. But I didn't ever have a meeting with them."
She added: "I'd made up my mind. To me, it's an honour to be on the BBC. I was brought up with it."
The 81-year-old speaks fondly of the show, calling presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins "extremely bright" and noting that their humour is "spontaneous and very cheeky".

"They are hilarious and I am so fond of them," the mother-of-three continued.
They too revealed that their loyalty lay with the BBC but Mary doesn't hold a grudge against Paul for leaving them behind.
"I would always stand by him," she told the publication. "Paul and I had our differences about what was important to us, but he is a brilliant bread-maker and I admired him a lot."
