The 76-year-old said she would love to join Paul Hollywood on the show as it moves to Channel 4, and confirmed she's "one of the runners".
Speaking at an event to help people suffering from dementia, Prue said: "I think I'm close but I know there are two people in the running. One other person.
"I've had two auditions with them and lots of meetings. I can wish. I can dream."
Prue also said she had been friends with departing judge Mary, 81, for years.

She continued: "Of course I'd love to do it. Who wouldn't want to do it? I've known Mary for years and she loved it."
The identity of the other candidate is still shrouded in mystery, although other rumoured potentials have included Delia Smith, Lorraine Pascale and Michel Roux Jr.
Prue's declaration came on the same day that details about a long affair she had with a married man have surfaced.
Rylan Clark-Neal spoke about her "scandalous" past on This Morning today.

Prue later married Rayne Kruger and the couple had two children
"She's got a soft spot for the men. But she likes her men with a degree of risk,' he revealed.
"The most scandalous one: she was having a 13-year affair with the husband of her mum's best friend. And then she married him!"
Rylan referred to Prue's first marriage to writer and businessman Rayne Kruger, who was 18 years her senior.
The couple were married for 28 years and had two children before Rayne's death in 2002.
