Darkness greets viewers for the start of The One Show
The presenters appeared confused about why they were being made to begin with the light’s turned off, with Angela asking: “Can we turn the lights on now?”
But, her co-host left her disappointed when he explained: “Well not yet, no. We’re trying to save money.”
Fortunately for the 33-year-old redhead, they didn’t have to present in darkness for the whole show as it was revealed it was just for their first guest.
Matt told viewers at home: “This is all to do with tonight’s guest. He’s playing a money grabbing pinching Miser on stage.”

The One Show guest Griff Rhys also used a torch to light up his face
Can we turn the lights on now?
At that moment, Griff Rhys appeared on screen as he too held a torch to light up face. When he declared his name, the lights instantly came back on.
The actor explained that he is playing Harpago in the play The Miser and his character is very overprotective of his wealth, which is why The One Show opened in darkness.
It comes after Michel Roux Jr. caused outrage on the show when he defended his decision not to pay waiting staff service charges.
While reporter Lucy Siegle said his decision was “indefensible”, the chef hit back: “The harsh reality of the service charge is it goes through the books and props up wages.

Michel Roux Jr. defended his decision not to give his waiters a service charge
“If a restaurant or hotel pays staff market price and then distributes the whole service charge without removing any of it, that hotel or restaurant will be bust in three months. It’s as simple as that.
“Restaurants need that income and it goes thought the books. It doesn’t matter how you dress it up. It’s revenue.”
The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm.
