Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent frustrated with Sophie Webster's lesbian storylines
BROOKE VINCENT has revealed her frustration with Coronation Street storylines that constantly draw attention to her character's sexuality.
Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent frustrated with Sophie Webster's lesbian storylines
The 24-year-old actress, who plays Sophie Webster, argued "not everything I do should be about me being a lesbian".
In a recent interview, she said: "Moving forward as a generation we want it to be normal, we've said it and that's that.
"I think there's more to people than their sexuality so I would much prefer to do a storyline to do with my job, or my family, that's not necessarily, 'Oh you're a lesbian and this is what lesbians face,' because its not necessarily true," she continued.
In past episodes, Sophie faced relationship turmoil with Kate Connor (played by Faye Brookes).
Brooke Vincent will return to Coronation Street
First look at Sophie and Rosie Webster together again
I think there's more to people than their sexuality
Brooke temporarily left the show last year to focus on other projects but has since returned to the show, explaining how she enjoyed having the "security" of Coronation Street.
"I just really, really enjoyed myself and I've come back with a completely different mindset, which makes me want to better my character here as well," she said.
The youngest Webster sibling will return after visiting her big sister, Rosie (Helen Flanagan), in America where she went to pursue her modelling career.
The biggest surprise comes when Rosie returns alongside Sophie.
Helen Flanagan will also return to the Cobbles
Brooke Vincent, Catherine Tyldesley and Helen Flanagan are friends off the Cobbles
Helen left the soap in 2012 amidst scandal surrounding her work outside of the Cobbles, including partaking in a photo shoot where she posed with a pistol.
Brooke has always defended Helen, saying: "From being so young, we've both been through it together, and I think a lot of people got under her skin and pushed her into certain things.
"I've missed having Helen here because she was like my big sister," she added.
Coronation Street continues tomorrow night at 7.30pm on ITV.
