The X-Files: WATCH David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson make out as Mulder and Scully
IT’S the moment fans of The X-Files have been waiting for: after 23 years Mulder and Scully have finally cut through all the sexual tension when they locked lips last night.
Mulder and Scully make out on the Jimmy Kimmel show
The two were searching for alien life in a dark and dusty room when they ended up going in for a kiss, before passionately clearing tables in the heat of the moment.
Unfortunately for X-Philes, this wasn't a scene from the upcoming mini-series but a comedy skit on Jimmy Kimmel, after stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny joined him live.
The actors donned dodgy wigs and dressed up as their iconic alter egos for the amusing sketch on the US chat show, while host Jimmy took on the role of agent Keane.
The scene saw the dynamic duo entering a dark office with their flashlights - much like they do in every episode of the sci-fi series.

Mulder and Scully get caught in the moment
After some poking around they found extraterrestrial life and their new partner Keane was assigned to help the two agents “get back into the swing things”.
However, Scully wasn’t going to have any of it and got out her mobile phone - a giant walkie talkie device with a ridiculously long antenna - to call their boss Assistant Director Skinner (played by Mitch Pileggi in the cult Nineties classic).
They were other throwback references as the pair used dial-up to connect to the internet rather than broadband service, before Mulder pulled out a now obsolete floppy disk to help “boot up” the computer.

You guys should have sex. It’s been like 23 years, everybody knows. It’s time to do it already
Jimmy had to tell them: “This isn’t the Nineties anymore, we’ve moved on.” The comedian went on to reassure them that even if “coming back” was a bad idea they would “always have the Nineties”.
But the killer line came when Jimmy suggested: “You guys should have sex. It’s been like 23 years, everybody knows. It’s time to do it already.” The two then got intimate right there and then.
X-Files purists will remember that Mulder and Scully kissed numerous times during the show's nine-year run, including sharing a New Year's Eve kiss in the episode Millennium and also in an instalment called William.

Fans will remember that the two nearly locked lips in 1998 X-Files film Fight the Future but the moment was scuppered when Scully was stung by a wasp carrying an alien virus and then kidnapped by the shadowy syndicate.
The pair also have a son together that they had to give up for adoption.
David and Gillian appeared on Jimmy Kimmel ahead of the return of The X-Files next week, which will be broadcast in the US on January 24 before making its way across the Pond in early February.

The new limited run will consist of six episodes, which will be a mix of the alien conspiracy theory story arc that framed the series and the classic monster-of-the-week tales.
Veteran cast members Mitch will be reprising his role as Mulder and Scully’s former boss while William B Davis will be returning as the shady Cigarette Smoking Man.
The X-Files will be broadcast in the UK on Channel 5 in early February.
