Here's everything you need to know about the ending of The Survivors. Be warned, major spoilers lie ahead.

In the final episode, we discover where Gabby was during the storm. She was searching for Kieran, who was already in the caves with Olivia, reports the Mirror US.

Gabby encounters Sean, Kieran's friend and Toby's younger brother, who offers to guide her into the caves. They don't find Kieran but they do carve their names into the rocks deep within the caverns.

He attempts to kiss her and becomes overly upset when she rejects him.

As the storm intensifies, water levels in the caves begin to rise. With Sean's anger escalating, he rushes ahead of Gabby, making it difficult for her to keep up and find a safe way out.

Sean deserts Gabby, resulting in her drowning in the caves and explaining why her body isn't found with the boys from the boat. Sean's father learns the truth but insists on his son's silence.

He even disposes of Gabby's backpack into the sea to create the illusion that she was swept away by turbulent waters. His justification appears to be the loss of one son already.

This also explains his CCTV-recorded argument with Bronte.

In the present day, it is also unveiled that Kieran's father advised him to leave town to escape his mother Verity, who blamed him for his brother's demise.

Bronte's images reveal that she was retracing Gabby's final steps for her art project, leading her to the caves where she discovered the carving.

Mia relays this information to Kieran who promptly departs to conduct his own investigation. In the caves, Kieran and Sean discover the spot where Gabby's name was, but it has been recently erased.

Kieran realises that the only person he hadn't considered who might know what transpired that day and knew about the caves was Sean. Simultaneously, his father is confessing his knowledge to Verity.

Kieran recalls that Sean lent his torch to Bronte. The night he retrieved it from her, she invited him to join her on the beach so she wouldn't be alone.

Upon discovering that Bronte knew Gabby was in the caves the day she died, Sean strikes her, resulting in Bronte's death.

In a dramatic twist, the culprit drags the victim's body into the water but is startled by an unexpected witness. Recognising the potential for framing, he later plants evidence to incriminate the innocent man.

After his dark secrets come to light, Sean engages in a violent confrontation with Kieran. The outcome of their struggle in the caves remains unseen, but ultimately, Sean is apprehended by the authorities, while a battered Kieran is set free.

A faintly heard statement reveals that Sean faces charges for Bronte's murder.

A wave of relief washes over Mia and Kieran's mother as they rush to embrace him, putting past grievances aside. In a poignant scene, Gabby's mother, Trish, her sister Olivia, and other grieving families, including Bronte's parents, come together for a commemorative gathering, casting flowers into the sea as a symbol of closure.

Kieran and Mia propose to remain in the town to support his ill father and mend fences with his mother, who warmly responds: "I think we'd like that very much."

The Survivors is streaming on Netflix.
