The Emmy Award-winning drama Sherlock set an extraordinarily high benchmark for stories centred on the celebrated British detective, and ever since it concluded in 2017, devotees have been searching for their next fix.

Their search is finally over, as the 2026 TV series Young Sherlock presents the iconic detective in a completely different light. This time, viewers are granted a fascinating glimpse into his life as a student, beginning at the prestigious Oxford University.

The story opens with a 19 year old Sherlock Holmes, long before he earns his reputation as the world's greatest detective, portrayed instead as a sharp yet unruly undergraduate. His character comes across as raw and undisciplined until a murder rocks Oxford and his own freedom is suddenly placed in jeopardy.

It is at this pivotal moment that we witness him stepping into his own for the first time in detective mode, taking it upon himself to crack the case, which ultimately unravels into a far-reaching global conspiracy.

Young Sherlock was conceived by Matthew Parkhill and developed by Peter Harness and Guy Ritchie, who subsequently directed two episodes of the series. However, the undisputed star of the show is Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who portrays the rebellious young Sherlock across all eight episodes. Numerous admirers have commended his abilities and the performances from the remainder of the ensemble.
