Steve Fletcher and Kirsten Ramsay put their knowledge to the test over an ancient statue.

Expert 'can't watch' as Steve repairs the Terracotta statue

The Repair Shop star Kirsten Ramsay was left with her mouth wide open as she was heard saying "I can't watch" to co-star Steve Fletcher. The 34-year-old was trusted with a Chinese statue which was named the show's oldest item.

Meanwhile, Kirsten was presented with a 2,000-year-old Chinese statue, which had shattered into pieces, and she roped in Steve to help her. She was nervously heard saying: "The moment has come to reattach the leg back onto the figure.”

"I am also going to use some bandage material that will help me pull a piece into place,” she added. Before explaining that it was crucial to use adhesive which was "slow activating".

This allowed her extra time to ensure that the pieces were able to fit perfectly back together and assess if they needed to do more work.

Kirsten continued: "I won't lie, it is quite tricky. I am very happy with the way that has gone together and when that is cured, I can make a start on filling."

However, things took a dramatic turn for the worse when Steve came in to aid Kirsten to fully restore the statue which left her feeling uneasy.

"Just got to put this last bit...this bit stops it from rocking forward and back," Steve explained.

She was spotted looking sceptical as she placed her hand to her chest and turned away from her co-star. "I can't watch," she gasped before letting out a laugh.

"I reckon that is ok," Steve reassured before adding: "Go on." Thankfully she was able to place the head onto the top of the statue.

Kirsten laughed before placing the head on the statue as she said: "I love your confidence. I hardly dare let go. Amazing, doesn't he look lovely? Just seeing him upright for the first time, I am blown away.

“Thank you so much, Steve, I can't wait to see Melanie's face. Seeing him probably for the first time in years," expressed Kirsten.

When Kirsten unveiled the restoration, the guest was left speechless over the pair’s incredible craftsmanship.

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
