The discontinued Netflix series fans demand needs to be 'brought back immediately'

Netflix viewers are desperate to see a psychological crime thriller based on a true-crime book return to screens. Mindhunter was based on the 1995 book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit.

The series made its debut in 2017 but only ran for two seasons before it was discontinued. One of the main executive producers was David Fincher and in January 2020, Netflix announced that the potential for a third season was on indefinite hold as he wanted to pursue other projects.

At the time, it was believed the series may be revisited in the future but in February 2023, Fincher confirmed it was officially over. A Netflix rep told TV Line in 2020: "David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots.

"He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.” Fincher admitted the show was expensive to produce and viewership was not necessarily worth the cost.

In 2023 he told Forbes: "I'm very proud of the first two seasons. But it's a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn't attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment." Viewers have since shared their thoughts on the show getting a new lease of life.

On a Vine Facebook post asking viewers which shows they want to see "brought back immediately", Paula Antoszak wrote: "Mindhunter. I don't care it's Netflix. It deserves to be continued."

Plenty of fans agreed with Vince Lopez commenting: "Was looking for someone to name this and glad it was mentioned, by far a cliffhanger I can't resist wanting more of."

Mike Scanlan shared: "Beat me to it, best two seasons of a show ever."

Timko's Tavern added: "Just rewatched the first two seasons again. Was really looking forward to season three with BTK."

Jade Amber commented: "Fully agree it was absolutely excellent!" While Shawzie Lunsford shared: "That show was so good!"

The series followed FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), along with psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv).

They operated the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit within the Training Division at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Together they launched a research project to interview imprisoned serial killers to understand their psychology, with the hope of applying this knowledge to solve ongoing cases.
