Only Fools and Horses filming secret exposed as BBC show made huge change six seasons in

Only Fools and Horses is a beloved sitcom but none of its scenes were filmed in Peckham, where the show was set.

Only Fools and Horses was set in Peckham, South London, but interestingly, none of the episodes were actually filmed there.

Most of the filming moved to Bristol, where the majority of the show would be shot from series 6 onwards. Producers reportedly opted to film there because of the high costs associated with shooting in Peckham.

One of the most recognisable locations from the series is the Whitemead House tower block that stood in for Nelson Mandela House, the Trotters' iconic home.

Fans can remember the nearby lock-up garages where Del Boy and Rodney stored their dodgy goods.

While much of the filming took place in Bristol, some key scenes were still shot in London. The street market in Angel, North London, became a staple of the show, and Harlech Tower in Acton was used for exterior shots of Nelson Mandela House.

As for the famous Nag’s Head pub, the interior scenes were filmed in Bristol, but a London pub was used for the exterior shots throughout the series.

It comes after Derek Trotter star Sir David Jason revealed the moment he almost quit Only Fools and Horses.

The actor, 84, said that it was "hard, even now," to explain just how much the studio audience laughed at one actor's line, prompting him to contemplate whether he should call it quits.

He recounted: "There's a moment in series three of Only Fools and Horses where Del and Rodney are squabbling about the viability of Rodney's plans to go it alone in business and invest his £200 of start-up capital in the self-catering holiday trade.

"Lennard [Pearce] as Grandad, has had almost no lines in this scene - he's just been a silent presence in his armchair in the sitting room. But now, at the mention of Rodney's proposed £200 holiday property investment, he suddenly pipes up and says, 'What you got, Rodney - a Wendy house?'"

Sir David continued: "It's hard, even now, to summon words that adequately account for the volume of the laughter this line got from the studio audience. The laugh went on so long, it threatened to run into the next episode - and all Nick and I could do was stand there and ride it, while trying not to join in.

"When we had completed the filming, I stepped forward to say a few words of thanks to the audience, which I always liked to do. This time, just to tease Lennard, I said, 'That's it. I'm resigning. Nick Lyndhurst and myself have worked our socks off all evening for this show. Lennard Pearce hasn't said a bloody word - and then he just says 'Wendy house' and he gets the biggest laugh I've ever heard in my entire life'," he added.
