As the credits rolled, speculation was rife among fans that Sherwood would return, and the BBC has now confirmed the show's renewal, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

He added, "Having a returning series on the BBC is pretty much every British writer's dream, and I'm incredibly grateful for the continued passion that Lindsay, Charlotte and Jo have for Sherwood - and to everyone at House Productions, the most supportive producers you can have."
Graham also paid tribute to the loyal viewers, acknowledging their role in the show's success.
He commented: "I'm determined to deliver for them in a series three, which will be a new set of stories, and the continuation and completion of some strands I've been dreaming of for some time."
The thrilling second series of Sherwood was conceived from the notorious 'Shottingham' gang conflicts within the Nottinghamshire area where creator James Graham hails from.
Sparking immense popularity upon its initial release in 2022, the opening episode of the sophomore season captivated over 6.5 million viewers.
Sharing in the anticipation for further instalments, Lindsay Salt, the BBC's Director of Drama, exclaimed: "Sherwood has quickly established itself as one of the all-time great television dramas, with its impeccable mix of characters, story and themes that have gripped and resonated with millions of viewers across the UK."
Salt continued, expressing delight at continuing the collaboration: "We're so pleased to be working with James Graham and the team to bring his exciting plans for Sherwood's third chapter to the BBC."
James is not only slated to pen Sherwood series three but will also resume his role as executive producer alongside the esteemed Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross and Harriet Spencer of House Productions, and the BBC's Jo McClellan.
Speculation remains as to which cast members from previous seasons will make a return.
