The Chase seemingly welcomed a doppleganger of a soap star to the ITV show this evening. As Bradley Walsh welcomed four new players to a brand new episode of the popular tea-time quiz show, viewers at home were conviced that one of the contestants was a famous face.

Chris from Kent, Ros from Leominster, Angela from Warrington and Giovanni who was originally from Venice, Italy, joined forces as they tested their general knowledge in a bid to win a cash prize. Competing in a cash builder, head to head round and the final chase, the four players faced quizzer Shaun Wallace in a bid to go home slightly richer.

But as player number one, Chris, took to the hot seat, fans at home were distracted. They took to social media as they pointed out that the resemblence to Emmerdale's Liam Cavannagh (played by Jonny McPherson) was uncanny.

Posting to X/Twitter, one user wrote: "The first guy reminds me of doctor Liam on Emmerdale #thechase." Another added: "Cmon seat one," followed by a picture of the fictional medic.

A third posted: "Liam from Emmerdale on todays #thechase." While another added: "He looks like Liam from Emmerdale #thechase".

Unfortunately, quizzing was not Chris' star quality and he was unfortunately caught by the Chaser, being sent home empty handed.

Yesterday, host Bradley Walsh rubbed salt in the wound as the whole team were sent home with nothing. All four players had made it to the final round, but it was not enough to be victorious as they played for a cash pot of £13,000.

While all four players were victorious in each round, they all opted for lower or middle offers meaning that their grand prize was significantly reduced - much to the glee of the host.

Bradley took an opportunity to remind players how much better they could have done. Addressing the team, the host said: "Now then, 13 collectively, but that should be saying 262 thousand pounds. Over a quarter of a million pounds."

As they were caught, chaser Jenny Ryan continued the taunting, as she said: "What a lovely team.

"Clearly you got together and you've worked to a tactic. Unfortunately, you're going to watch that first minute, in particular, of the final chase back and go 'oh no, those were the couple of questions that we could have got and that would have made all the difference.'

"But you know, at least it's not as painful as having to take a quarter of a million off you."

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV from 5pm
