Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will reunite one last time for their Amazon Prime series The Grand Tour: One for the Road. The show’s epic finale will see the gang travel through Zimbabwe in three cards they’ve always wanted to own: a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre, and a Triumph Stag.

Ahead of the trio’s final adventure on the road, Richard Hammond shared an emotional confession about the series coming to an end. “I'll be really honest, and they’ll mock me for this,” Richard warned, before admitting: “I'll miss them terribly.

He continued: “We’ve worked together for twenty years. We’ve worked hard, and we have to egg each other on, and it’s never just loafing about. So, it'd be difficult to recreate that situation.

“If I go over and visit Jeremy at his farm, it would be to go over and relax. That's not the same as having to get up at five in the morning and drive for eight hours through the jungle.”

He then went on to give a special insight into the “poignant” ending show boss Andy Wilman had given the series. He said: “I think our minds were all in the same place: there's a delicacy of touch and a poignancy that makes it all the more profound and meaningful.

“I very much suspect the audience that has been with us for all those years will watch and feel our gratitude. I hope so because that means we’re all in it together. It's a lovely ending.

“It’s moving,” he added. “It’s Wilman’s ability to weirdly not overdo it. You wouldn’t think it possible from the loud, crass idiots we’ve been over the years, which was our stock in trade, but he’s temporarily made us very measured, and as a result, it’s fabulously done.”

The show’s latest trailer, which was released today to the iconic tune of Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler, certainly captured some of the emotion fans can expect from the friends’ final scenes together.

The teaser then shows a montage of fast cars flying around dirt roads, images of forest fires, scenes on a boat, what looks to be some serious engine trouble, and some gorgeous scenery.

"Zimbabwe," reflects Jeremy. "We really did save the best 'til last." He also acknowledged: "I shall certainly miss doing this sort of thing."

Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, which first aired in 2016, comprises five series with a total of 43 episodes between them.

Before that, Jeremy, Richard and James all worked together for many years on the BBC car programme Top Gear, which they departed in 2015.

The Grand Tour: One for the Road launches globally on 13 September only on Prime Video.
