Since its inception in 2012, the BBC drama has seen numerous stars come and go, with some departures leaving fans heartbroken as characters were tragically written out.
This week brought news of another departure, as Miriam Margoyles, who portrayed Sister Mildred on the series, confirmed she has no plans to return following her temporary exit in 2021.

Emerald Fennell
Emerald Fennell has enjoyed a highly successful career. In addition to her role as nurse Patience Mount in Call the Midwife, which she left in 2017, she has appeared in shows such as New Tricks, Victoria and The Crown.
Fennell left Call the Midwife in 2017 to concentrate on her writing work for season two of Killing Eve, starring Jodie Comer. Her writing earned her two Primetime Emmy nominations and Oscar nods for her film, Promising Young Woman.
In the following year, Fennell debuted her role as the Duchess of Cornwall in The Crown's third season. Speaking about her departure from Call the Midwife, Fennell said: "Very sad I'm not filming wonderful CTM, had writing to do and they were so lovely and gave me the time to do it because they are the best."

Leonie Elliott
Leonie Elliott, revered for her portrayal as Lucille Anderson, took to social media in February to inform her followers that she would not be returning for future series. While the reasons for her departure weren't disclosed, Leonie did reveal that she would be venturing forth onto new creative projects.
Her heartfelt message to her supporters included: "Thank you all for embracing Lucille and rocking with me on this journey, it is with a heart full of love and appreciation that I embark on pastures new."

Miranda Hart
Miranda Hart, the versatile actress and comedienne, is well remembered for her stint as Matron Camilla Fortescue-Cholmondeley-Browne during the years 2012 to 2015 before she chose to exit the stage in pursuit of cinematic challenges. Post-departure from her television duties, Miranda graced the silver screen with her presence in the comedy feat 'Spy', and subsequently starred in the acclaimed Jane Austen adaptation of 'Emma', which also boasted of a stellar cast including the likes of Anna Taylor-Joy and Bill Nighy.
