Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were thrilled to chat with Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar, who teased fans with the possibility of a new series.

While initially discussing Adrian's theatrical role in Kiss Me, Kate, the conversation swiftly turned to the much-loved BBC police drama, Line of Duty, which concluded in 2021 to the dismay of its avid viewers.

Fans of Superintendent Ted Hastings may have reason to celebrate as Adrian hinted at a potential return, saying he and co-stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston are keen for another round.

Susanna couldn't hide her excitement at the prospect, prompting Adrian to say: "Well I think so, Vicky (McClure) thinks so, Martin (Compston) thinks so. Everybody thinks so! It'll be down to the BBC and Jed Mercurio I think, when and whether we do it."

Adrian shared with the ITV duo that the cast is eager to get back into action and are crossing their fingers for a comeback, adding: "Hopefully, somebody will make a decision at some point.", reports the Mirror.

Ed probed about the timeline for a new season if greenlit today, to which Adrian responded: "First of all, Jed will have to write whatever he's going to write. That doesn't happen overnight.

Then the BBC will have to make a decision on when we're going to shoot it, where we're going to shoot it. Hopefully we'll get back to Belfast, that's where we shot everything. It'll easily be a year."

Ed inquired if fans of the hit BBC crime drama might expect its return by the end of 2025. With a hint of mystery, he responded: "The end of next year? Maybe."

Susanna, thrilled at the thought of the show's comeback, pointed out that Adrian would be free to start filming from September after his stage role concludes.

In their chat, Susanna couldn't resist probing him about the chance of appearing on this year's Strictly Come Dancing. While he quickly dismissed any notion of him taking part in the dance competition, he didn't say the same for his ex-colleague Vicky McClure.

He admitted he hasn't discussed with her about potentially joining the show, but praised her skills, saying: "She is a very good dancer, she really is. I haven't talked to her about that, but she really is a good dancer. If they (the BBC) could swing that, the nation would be gripped."
