'Biased' Ed Balls needs to be replaced on GMB – Express readers give brutal verdict
EXCLUSIVE: Readers have voted that Ed Balls should be replaced on Good Morning Britain in light of his wife's appointment as Home Secretary.
Good Morning Britain presenter Ed Balls should be replaced in his role on the show, according to Express readers who voted on the subject following his MP wife, Yvette Cooper's appointment as Home Secretary.
A whopping 86% of voters declared that Ed should have another presenter take his place, in comparison to just 14% who thought he should stay, and 0% of voters had no opinion either way.
Ed has been a staple on the ITV show since July 2022 when he was announced as a permanent rotating presenter. Before joining the breakfast programme he had enjoyed a long political career himself.
He served as Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families from 2007 to 2010, and as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2011 to 2015. Indeed he has utilised his political knowledge when grilling MPs on the programme.
However, just days ago it was announced his wife was to be the new Home Secretary having been appointed by Sir Keir Starmer following the Labour Party's landslide win in the General Election.
This has called into question his ability to remain impartial in the role, which often sees him interview government officials.
On Monday's (July 8) show he and co-host Susanna Reid presented the ITV show from outside his old stomping ground of Westminster, which raised a few eyebrows with viewers who took to social media to air their concerns.
@celticbro enquired on X: "Should Ed Balls not be excluded from interviewing members of a government that includes his wife? I know impartiality is regarded as a thing of the past but this is just blatant bias."
@MilesBitterNews had a similar query, asking: "Why is Balls still involved as Ex Labour Gov Minister and his wife is a new Gov Minister. GMB impartiality seriously in question."
@iamadave opined: "Why is Ed Balls given a presenting gig on GMTV. His wife is the new home secretary and this is a conflict of interest."

@Jaybird52799296 chimed in: "Bad choice by @ITV to send @edballs to Westminster today to interview new Gov ministers. How can he be impartial when his wife is Home Secretary? Surely there were other more suitable presenters who could have been there... like @MartinSLewis @RobbieRinder?"
Good Morning Britain currently has several male presenters on rotation who could replace Ed.
Richard Madeley is a regular presenter while Adil Ray covers several Friday editions and Rob Rinder and money guru Martin Lewis both occasionally present the programme.
