My Lady Jane season 2: Will the Amazon Prime Video drama get a second series?

Amazon Prime Video has dropped another must-see historical drama in My Lady Jane, and fans are already eager to know if the story will continue in a second season.

My Lady Jane: Emily Bader stars in trailer for Prime Video series

Warning - this article contains spoilers for My Lady Jane season one.

My Lady Jane is the latest addictive and inventive new drama from Amazon Prime Video, starring Emily Bader as the historical heroine Jane Grey.

At the end of the first season, Jane and Guildford Dudley (played by Edward Bluemel) have managed to escape a gruesome end, but the vicious Queen Mary (Kate O’Flynn) is still on the throne.

Meanwhile, Susanna (Máiréad Tyers) and the rest of the Ethians are still under threat after the uprising at Jane’s foiled execution, which history buffs will know had a very different outcome in reality.

Plus, the surprising reveal that Bess (Abbie Hern) is also an Ethian and the fact Edward (Jordan Peters) still hasn’t been able to tap into his power undoubtedly sets up more adventures to come for the Royal Family in a second outing.

But will My Lady Jane continue? Here’s everything Express.co.uk knows so far.

Will My Lady Jane have a second season?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Prime Video has not given My Lady Jane the green light for season two.

As it’s a completely new drama, the studio is most likely waiting to see how the first crop of episodes performs before going all in on more.

However, showrunners Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn are clearly confident enough in the premise to set up more mysteries and plot threads to be picked up later.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the writers revealed they’re already deep into Tudor history research and would love to explore - and rewrite - the other characters’ stories.

Meredith explained: “There are people in season one who, without spoiling, if you know Tudor history go on to lead big, bad-a** lives.”

“And also there are characters like Katherine Grey (Isabella Brownson) who had a really tragic life,” her co-writer Gemma added.

“And it would be great to be able to retell a tragic character’s story. Frances Grey went on to serve Mary’s court even though Mary had killed her daughter.

“So, there’s lots of different stories that would be really fun to carry on.”

The cast also seems eager to continue the drama, even if it means another seven-month stint in the UK for Californian-born lead Emily.

Her co-star Máiréad told us: “I would definitely come back for season two of My Lady Jane, 100 percent. I’d love to.”

For the time being, though, fans will just have to wait and see if the first season finds a large enough audience to warrant a follow-up.

My Lady Jane is available to stream on Prime Video.
