Showtime’s Dexter proved to be a massive hit with fans of serial killer and crime dramas so it’s no wonder it ran for eight seasons and returned for a spin-off in 2021.
While the follow-up Paramount+ series seemed to bring Dexter Morgan’s (played by Michael C Hall) story to a close for good, this isn’t the end just yet.
Attention has now turned to the newly announced prequel Original Sin which will air on Showtime in the US and Paramount+ in the UK.
Set in Miami, 15 years prior to the events of the original show, a young Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) will embark on a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

Filming for Original Sin kicked off in early June and now even more good news has been revealed.
The cast of Dexter: Original Sin will be joined by actor Patrick Dempsey, best known for portraying the unforgettable Dr Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd in ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.
Since leaving the medical drama behind, Dempsey has also been in Enchanted, Transformers, Devils, Ferrari and Bridget Jones’ Baby, just to name a few.
When he stars in the upcoming Dexter prequel, Dempsey will have a key role to play in the soon-to-be murderous youngster.

The 58-year-old will play Aaron Spencer in Original Sin, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide Department where Dexter works as an intern.
Spencer also has a personal link with Dexter, given his decades-long relationship with his adoptive dad, Harry Morgan (Christian Slater).
As fans of the hit series will know, Harry is the one who teaches Dexter a code on how he can find people to kill who deserve to die while avoiding getting caught.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found themselves at the centre of public attention since they took a step back from senior royal duties in 2020.
In a trailer for the Netflix series about them, Prince Harry told viewers that “no one sees what’s happening behind closed doors” in a reference to how their lives may differ from what the public think about the couple. Meghan adds: “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”.
Reports suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could receive up to $100 million for making the show, although this has been disputed and the true figure is unknown.

Dexter: Original Sin will premiere sometime in late 2024 on Paramount+.
