Bridgerton showrunner forced to cut song from season 3 as cast share dream soundtrack
EXCLUSIVE: The third season of Bridgerton featured plenty more orchestral covers of iconic pop songs, but showrunner Jess Brownell was forced to cut one of her favourite tracks.
Bridgerton star reveals he tried to take prop from the set
Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell sadly had to cut one of her favourite songs from the soundtrack after she was "outvoted".
Brownell replaced Chris Van Dusen as the showrunner for season three, the second part of which has just dropped on Netflix today (June 13).
Once again, the period drama features a sensational playlist of orchestral versions of popular songs, including Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me and Ariane Grande’s POV, to name just a couple in part two.
Unfortunately, Brownell had to make the difficult decision to cut a popular throwback track as it was just too sad for what they were going for.
“I tried to get a string quartet cover of Don’t Speak by No Doubt into this season,” she exclusively revealed to Express.co.uk at the series’ premiere in London.
The 1995 rock anthem was originally written as a love song early on in lead singer Gwen Stefani’s career but was adapted into a breakup song after her split from bandmate Tony Kanal.
Brownell went on: “It got cut because it was a little bit melancholy. I got outvoted.
“But I might keep trying! Get some No Doubt jams, I’m a big fan.”

Ahead of Bridgerton’s exciting return on Thursday, some of the cast members also revealed some dream tunes they’d love to be included in the soundtracks for upcoming seasons.
Lady Tilley Arnold star Hannah New is also eager for the series to include some “90s classics”.
“Like a little bit of Britney Spears, something that’s going to get all of us [dancing],” she said.
“But, I’m a big fan of old school trip-hop, that’s what I used to listen to.
“So, for me to get into my character it was very much like… Portishead’s Glory Box was a song that was dark, sexy, but powerful.”
While Lord Debling star Sam Phillips wants the soundtrack to look back even further than the 90s.
“I would love to hear… I’m quite a rock person, I’d love something from Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, that would be really good.
“But if we’re going poppy, I would say let’s get a bit of Girls Aloud in there, or All Saints.”
Bridgerton season 3, part 2 is out now on Netflix.
