Emmerdale enthusiasts believe they've sussed out the departure plot for two beloved characters. In the latest episode, fans met Samson Dingle's (played by Sam Hall) new acquaintance, Josh (Osian Morgan), who seemed to spell trouble as they tinkered with an old van.

The pair were seen plotting to refurbish the van in time for Samson's driving test, with Josh quipping: "What do you reckon then, legal by summer?" Samson shared his summer aspirations with his father Sam (James Hooton) and Lydia Karen Blick), saying: "If we get it fixed up in time, we will be off around Europe."

Lydia, however, was visibly concerned. She later expressed her fears to Sam: "Have you read the papers, it's full of young lads who have just passed their driving tests which Samson hasn't. They're all distracted by their mates in the car, and then it's..." Her words trailed off as Samson entered the room.

Taking to social media to share their thoughts, one Twitter user speculated: "Guessing Samson's new mate is his lazily written exit storyline then?"

Someone agreed: "Yep! He deadnames Matty things get out of hand and he pushes Samson into Matty who is holding a knife."

Yet, Samson's future hangs in the balance even before summer arrives. Spoilers from last week suggest he'll find himself on the receiving end of a knife following a clash with Matty (Ash Palmisciano).

Josh is poised to start taunting Matty and deadnaming him after he begins flirting with Amy. Matty requests them to leave, but they quickly return, demanding the cash from the register.

In no time, Josh thrusts Samson towards Matty, resulting in Samson landing on the knife that Matty is holding. But will Samson manage to make it to Europe?

Samson isn't the only Dingle who has contemplated leaving the village lately. Last week, Cain (Jeff Hordley) teased the idea of taking his son Kyle (Huey Quinn) away.

Fans have also weighed on Cain's potential exit, and many have devised theories about how he could leave.

Taking to a Facebook fan page, one viewer questioned why he could be "taking a break" from the soap.

One suggested: "I think maybe it is to do with Kyle getting bullied. Maybe they go and stay with Debbie for a while."

Another agreed: "I think he takes his son to Scotland because he's having a hard time at school."

Throwing another theory into the mix, one fan said: "Does he get accused of the car accident that injured Ethan?"

"If Cain goes to Scotland, we can probably expect Zac's death when he returns," a fourth commented.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
