Vera star could return as fans think they've worked out Aiden Healy's replacement
Vera fans were left in shock on Monday after Kenny Doughty announced he was leaving the ITV drama after eight years of playing Aiden Healy.

Following the news of Kenny Doughty's exit from Vera, fans have been coming up with their own thoughts and theories about who could replace him. One eagle-eyed fan hope Joe Ashworth (played by David Leon) will return to be Vera's (Brenda Blethyn) sidekick, while others hope Mark Edwards (Riley Jones) will step up.
Taking to a Vera fan Facebook page, Bella Chichester asked fellow fans whether they would like to see Joe Ashworth back by DCI Stanhope's side.
She penned: "With the sad news DS Healy is leaving would you like DS Ashworth to return?"
People were quick to comment, with many agreeing they would love to see Joe back.
Wendy Straker said: "Malcolm and Aiden gone, hope Kenny Mark and Jack stay on, David Leon could make a welcome return."

Sue Wells replied: "Yes he needs to come back luv sue xxx." (sic)
"Listen pet he is welcome to come back," Sylvia Kropp went on to add.
Anne Lewis said: "David Leon is one handsome guy would love to see him back again."
While Colleen Pedlar pleaded: "Yes...along with Vera, please!!!!"
Jean Pollard echoed: "David Leon was always my favourite Sergeant of Vera’s.
"He and Brenda Blethyn were great together. There was always a closeness there."
One fan even suggested that Kenny Lockhart (Jon Morrison) should be promoted.
On Monday, actor Kenny Doughty took to Instagram to share the news he was leaving.

The actor originally replaced David as Vera's sidekick in 2014 and had remained by her side ever since.
"After 8 years & 35 Vera films I’ve made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy’s badge," the actor shared alongside a string of photos on set.
"I can confirm I am leaving Vera. I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy & inspiration Brenda Blethyn.
"The perfect leading star who I owe so much to."
He concluded: "I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter & have been a rock for me over the years. I can’t thank you enough. Precious times.
"And finally the Vera fans: without you and your support I would never have made so many films.
"You really are the best fans in the world. Thank you so much for your loyalty & love for the show. X" (sic)
