Love Island 2019 phrases: What do Bev, Bevnish and Bevvy mean?
LOVE ISLAND 2019 saw new phrases emerge as cast member Lucie Donlan called the boys ‘bev’, 'bevnish' and ‘bevvy’. But what do bev and bevvy mean?
Love Island: Lucie Donlan says she ‘bevnished’ her boyfriend
'Bev', 'bevvy' and 'bevnish' are the phrases that Love Island 2019 fans are already sick of hearing. Lucie Donlan has been calling the Love Island boys 'bev', leaving fans of the ITV 2 series wishing she's stop trying to make 'bev' happen Gretchen Wieners-style. Love Island 2019 can read on for our best guess as to what 'bev', 'bevvy' and 'bevnish' actually mean.
What do Bev and Bevvy mean on Love Island?
In Lucie Donlan’s own words in her pre-Love Island interview: “In the villa, you’re probably gonna hear some new and weird words.”
She then mentioned not only “bev”, but other phrases like “bevnished out, fuffed off, woof”.
The surfing Love Island contestant then explained: “A bev is a hot guy.
“If he’s your boyfriend he’s your bev, but if he’s not your boyfriend, he’s a bev.”
Although exactly what “bev” means may exist only in Lucie’s head, fans have discovered a clue as to where the phrase comes from.
Just like in previous Love Island series, a sexy person has been described as a “snack” and “bevvy” seems to follow this trend by comparing someone to a beverage or “bev”.
This is similar to the phrase “tall drink of water”, which Urban Dictionary helpfully defines as: “A man or woman that is tall, gorgeous, and super delicious.
“Like on a hot day, a tall drink of water is absolutely appealing.”
A Love Island fan has added the following definition to “bevvy” on Urban Dictionary: “A word made up by Lucie from Love Island 2019, who keeps trying to make it happen.”
This is one of many comparisons that Love Island fans have made between Lucie and Mean Girls character Gretchen who insisted on repeating the phrase, “fetch”.
One Love Island fan on Twitter, for example, wrote: “Lucie stop trying to make bev/bevy happen. It’s not gonna happen,” alongside a GIF of Mean Girls character Regina George (Rachel McAdams).
Another wrote: “A bev will only ever be known as a ‘drink’ soz (sic) Lucie”
On Love Island last night, Lucie also seemed to suggest that “bevnish” means to either have sex with someone or touch someone in a sexual manner.
As she explained after admitting to having sex in a nightclub during a game of Never Have I Ever: “We just went into a toilet, bevnished each other up and then just fell asleep in there.”
Bevnish was also the name of Lucie’s dog, though we do not know whether the dog was named after the phrase or vice versa.
As to what “fuffed off” or “woof” might mean, your guess is as good as ours.
We will all have to wait until Lucie reveals more about her favourite new phrases on future episodes of Love Island
Love Island 2019 airs nightly at 9pm on ITV2
