Emmerdale spoilers: Matty Barton for unlikely paring? Star drops big hint
EMMERDALE could be set to unleash a new bromance in the village between two of its most unlikely characters, as Ryan Stocks actor James Moore reveals his hopes for his character's future.
Emmerdale: Charity lies to Chas over who Ryan Stocks really is
Ryan Stocks (played by James Moore) has had a rocky start to his life in Emmerdale, with drama following in his path.
Having discovered he is the son of Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who thought he’d died at birth, Ryan arrived in the village to build a relationship with his long-lost mother.
Now the actor has revealed that happier times could be on the horizon and hinted at a possible bromance for Ryan with Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano).
“Me and Ash have become great friends both being the 'newbies’,” the actor revealed, referring to life away from the ITV soap.
I think he could really connect to Matty
Matty Barton has also recently arrived back in the Dales, having spent a few years away living in London.
However, his mother Moira Barton (Natalie J. Robb) wasn’t best pleased when it was revealed to viewers that Matty used to be her daughter Hannah Barton (Grace Cassidy).
Hannah left for London in 2012, following in the footsteps of her sister Holly Barton (Sophie Powles) and leaving the village behind her.
Earlier this year, Matty returned hoping to reconnect with his mother having transitioned from female to male.
Speaking about their troubled relationships with their mothers to Digital Spy, James said: “Ash and I talk about it a lot and the connections are uncanny.
“We're both secret sons, we've both had disadvantages thrown at us that we're still learning to overcome,” the actor added.
The drama isn’t set to calm for Ryan as next week the character comes face-to-face with his father, DI Mark Bails (Rocky Marshall).
When Charity was younger, she was sexually abused by Bails and the detective impregnated her as was explained to viewers of the ITV soap in a special flashback earlier this year.
Charity believed her son had died, but was left shocked when it was revealed he was very much alive and living with his adopted mother, Irene Stocks (Eithne Browne).
Having gone through a whirlwind few months, a bromance could be exactly what the young lad needs, according to James who added: “I think he could really connect to Matty."
Matty and Ryan also share a common link in the shape of Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), as Charity is cousin’s with the mechanic and Moira being in a relationship with Cain.
James explained that this link could bring them together: “I think with the mutual connection we have with Cain could be a great opportunity for us to get together and do a real deep dive together and realise that we're not alone in our respectively crazy situations.”
Speaking about life away from soap land, James revealed that the two men get on really well as friends.
“We get on like a house on fire so it would be exciting to finally work with him!" the actor added.
However in recent weeks, viewers will have seen Ryan and Ross Barton (Michael Parr) develop a friendship, but Ross’ dabble with drugs has left Ryan pushed out.
“There's a lot more of Ross and Ryan to come” James teased.
“Ryan is trying to do the right thing and help Ross out and getting him to work through his problems.”
Could Ryan find himself torn between the two Barton boys?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
