Jay’s Slater’s family have been tirelessly looking for the missing 19-year-old, with the boy’s uncle admitting they feel left on their own as local Tenerife police called off the official search.

When asked if they wanted help from police in the UK, Jay’s uncle Glen Duncan told Sky News: "We would love that, it's just not as simple as that."

"So far we've just been in touch with the British consulate out here who have been saying it's still a live investigation, we have just got to sit tight.

"It's just adding to the despair really."

Jay's father Warren Slater, and Zak, his older brother, are also among the unofficial search through the Rural de Teno Park, where the teen was last spotted.

Mr Duncan said: "It's not just Warren and Zak, there are people who are out there. We're going to have to be doing something because otherwise, you're just sitting in the apartment staring at the same four walls."

Jay’s uncle also added that he hoped there would be "more communication" from police on the island.

Police called off the search in early July but have stated the investigation is still ongoing.

Jay, an apprentice bricklayer originally from Lancashire, has been missing since June 17 after attending a three-day festival with friends Lucy Law and Brad Hargreaves in Tenerife.

After leaving the Papagayo nightclub with two men, deemed "irrelevant" in the search by Spanish police, Jay reportedly walked back to their Airbnb, located in the small northern village of Masca - around an 11 hour-walk away from his own accommodation.

In the morning, Jay is believed to have tried to hike his way back, as he called his friend Lucy Law to tell her he missed his bus.

According to her, Jay told her he had "cut his leg" on a cactus, had "no idea where he was", was "lost in the mountains" and his phone battery was on one percent.

A local cafe owner also spotted Jay trying to catch a bus back to his Los Cristianos resort, but claims she drove past him later "walking fast".
