Man who Jay Slater stayed with at Airbnb reveals why he has not spoken to TV detective

One of the two men who let Jay Slater stay at an Airbnb the night before he went missing is refusing to speak to former British detective Mark Williams-Thomas and claims "I haven't done anything wrong."

Ayub Qassim said he invited Jay back to his holiday home after a rave in Tenerife just hours before the 19-year-old disappeared on June 17.

Qassim, 31, who was previously jailed nine years ago for selling Class A drugs, told the MailOnline: "The only comment I have to make is that Jay came to the house alive, and he left the house alive."

"I let the geezer stay at mine because he had nowhere else to go, his friends had all left him."

Jay returned to Qassim's remote cottage in the village of Masca at 5am on June 17, the day he disappeared. He is reported to have left the cottage at roughly 7.30am to catch a ride on a bus back to his holiday apartment.

Later that day Jay was reported missing and he has not been seen since. Teams of experts have dedicated over two weeks of their time to hunt for Jay - but his whereabouts remains unknown.

Former detective turned TV sleuth Mark Williams-Thomas flew to Tenerife to help with the search - and said he wanted to speak to the two men who rented the apartment Jay last visited. But Qassim said he had only spoken to authorities in Tenerife.

Speaking to the MailOnline he said: "I've spoken to the Spanish police and they've told me not to speak to anyone which is why I've been quiet.

"I've not spoken to Mark Williams-Thomas or anyone like him because he doesn't have any jurisdiction in Tenerife, and I haven't done anything wrong."

Qassim insisted he had had no argument with Jay and he had even given him a blanket to sleep in.

Qassim along with the unnamed man gave officers their details and fully cooperated with the investigation. Sources close to the inquiry have told MailOnline that the men are not relevant to Jay's disappearance.

Mr Williams-Thomas, 54, said: "We have received information that would suggest Jay left the rental property feeling scared and that he would not return to the rental, even though that would have been the most sensible course of action, and also where he could have charged his phone and got water."

Mr Williams-Thomas travelled to the island on June 24, where he was seen carrying out inquiries at the holiday rental, as well as at Papagayo nightclub, where Jay had been seen shortly before he vanished.

The investigator has also been given access to Jay's family and friends, including close pals Brad Hargreaves, 19, and Lucy Mae Law, 18, who were both with Jay on the holiday. And he says he remains in close contact with Jay's family and provided them with a preliminary report of his findings last week.
