A bewildered man spotted a 'giant white cube' spinning in the skies above him – and turned to social media hoping for an explanation on what he saw.

While some suggest it may be evidence of extraterrestrial activity, others are more sceptical, suggesting it might be nothing more than a rogue circus balloon.

The eyewitness shared his encounter on Reddit and explained: "This huge white cube was rotating in the skies for about five minutes then it disappeared in a moment.

"It appeared first, I started to record with an older iPhone, and then it disappeared. Then it appeared again."

In response to his post, one user confessed: "I've got a video I took of the same thing about a year ago in BC Canada, it was way farther away but you could see it sitting still shining in the sky."

Another added: "This is one of the most compelling UFO clips I've seen, nice catch."

A third commentator revealed: "I saw something like this four to five years ago when I was on the sky train in Vancouver in Canada.

"I was looking out the window at the city off in the distance, and a cube just like that was hovering above the tallest building. I pulled out my phone to take a video and it disappeared."

Further adding to the mystery, another said: "Great now we're seeing Flying Sugar Cubes."

A fifth user noted: "Certainly looks intriguing."

However, some firmly believed the sighting to be a cube-shaped balloon from a nearby circus, with one stating: "Likely a cube-shaped balloon."

Another individual remarked: "Well the only non-balloon-like behaviour isn't in the video, so, balloon it is. One more said: "Another added: "Nice balloon. It didn't disappear, it exploded."
