New weather maps show the exact date the searing heatwave will hit Britain.

Temperatures on June 22 will have a high of 24C. It will be hottest in the southeast of England in London and Essex, according to the maps from NetWeather.

The rest of East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Cambridge) and the southeast (Canterbury, Brighton) will be between 21C and 23C.

The midlands (Birmingham, Oxford, Lincoln) and the southwest (Plymouth, Bristol) will sit between 19C and 21C.

Wales (Conwy, Cardiff), Northern Ireland (Derry, Belfast) and the north of England (Manchester, Newcastle) will be cooler, between 17C and 19C.

South Scotland (Edinburgh, Dumfries) will be between 16C and 17C while central Scotland (Aberdeen, Fort William) and northern Scotland (Inverness, Wick) will be the coldest in the country, between 11C and 14C.

Temperatures will rise by between 1C and 2C on June 23, with areas of heat remaining the same.

The Met Office said: “Signals are weak regarding prevailing weather patterns during this period. Typical conditions for the UK are most probable, with a mixture of weather types.

“All areas can be expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures are most likely to be close to normal.”

Dry with plenty of evening sunshine across England and Wales leading to a clear and chilly night. Cloudier and breezier in Scotland with rain arriving from the northwest.

Sunday:

After a chilly but largely bright start for England and Wales, clouds will gradually build as rain pushes southwards into Northern Ireland and northern England, followed by showers across Scotland.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Staying cool with a northerly breeze and a mixture of sunny spells and showers over the next few days. Showers turning lighter from the west on Wednesday.
