New weather maps reveal that the UK will be hit with freezing temperatures in parts of the country just days after the country basks in 20C heat.

The maps show temperatures hitting 20C in parts of the south on June 4, including near London.

Northern Scotland will see moderate warmth with temperatures reaching between 11 and 13C, according to the Metdesk.

In Northern Ireland, temperatures will reach highs of 18C while parts of Wales will hit the 20C mark.

But, Metdresk's weather maps show a drastic drop on June 6, with temperatures hitting freezing in the Scottish highlands when temperatures reach their lowest point of the day.

Northern England will see temperatures of around 3C in parts while the south will see highs of just 6C.

The map indicates that Northern Ireland and Wales will not see temperatures above 5C at the coldest part of the day.

Temperatures pick up later in the day, however, with some parts of the UK returning to the 20C mark.

This comes as WXCharts forecasts beautiful summer days reaching 23C in the UK as early as next week.

While there will be warmer weather, the period will not officially be a heatwave. The Met Office says a heatwave is a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding 25C.

But the Met Office warns that Britons will first have to endure days of rain, issuing three different yellow weather warnings for rain and thunderstorms across the north of England, as well as large parts of central, southern and southwestern England.

The weather service said: "Low pressure will bring outbreaks of rain and showers through much of this week. However, there are hints that high pressure will return for the start of June and the start of meteorological summer at the weekend."
