Extent of Biden's decline laid bare as he freezes and talks gibberish - 'not same person'

Sources who have attended meetings with Joe Biden say the President is physically frail, difficult to understand, and increasingly unable to stay on top of his brief.

Joe Biden's cognitive decline is causing concern amongst dozens of high-ranking officials in his administration, a damning new report has claimed.

The extensive report has cited more than 45 Republican and Democratic lawmakers and staffers who shared their thoughts on the mental fitness of Mr Biden as he prepares to take on Donald Trump again in November.

The statements from various insiders paint a bleak picture of a President struggling to grasp basic details, becoming increasingly hard to understand, and showing signs of physical deterioration.

The claims were all made in the Wall Street Journal's report headlined 'Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping'.

One source said of a meeting with Mr Biden: "You couldn't be there and not feel uncomfortable."

They said that the President took 10 minutes to greet around 20 people before a meeting on funding for Ukraine.

It was also claimed that Mr Biden let his colleagues do most of the talking.

Another incident involved Mr Biden mixing up the names of two Hispanic cabinet secretaries.

The Wall Street Journal also dissected a public gaffe whereby Mr Biden appeared to not understand his own policy while talking to Republican Speaker Mike Johnson.

The conversation was again about funding for Ukraine, and insiders say Mr Johnson accused the President of "helping Vladimir Putin" with a policy that stops future permits for shipping liquefied natural gas to many countries, including in Europe.

But Mr Biden thought this was only a study, not one of his policies.

Former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said of Mr Biden: “I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house. He’s not the same person.”

Sen. James E. Risch, an Idaho Republican who attended the Ukraine meeting, said: “What you see on TV is what you get.

"These people who keep talking about what a dynamo he is behind closed doors—they need to get him out from behind closed doors, because I didn’t see it.”

Mr Biden's presidency has been littered with public gaffes, embarrassing falls, and questions surrounding his age.

His administration has tried to dismiss these claims.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates told the Wall Street Journal: “Congressional Republicans, foreign leaders, and nonpartisan national-security experts have made clear in their own words that President Biden is a savvy and effective leader who has a deep record of legislative accomplishment.

"Now, in 2024, House Republicans are making false claims as a political tactic that flatly contradict previous statements made by themselves and their colleagues.”
